Introduction

"Twice, our world was stricken by the end. The plains and once wet fields are nothing but ashes, torn asunder by the was, the then, the past - two pasts - that laid their marks.

Our planet was fated to die twice over, and though there were many that shed their blood for this good earth when their time came for them, the Gaian race is far from extinction. We wonder how it is that our place in this known universe avoided destruction, of Meteor and Omega, but as all beings who are face to face with the ultimate question of reality, we come to understand that we know nothing. We've set our eyes on re-birth; these were not uncharted waters. We looked to the heavens for Alexander, for Eden, for law and religion, and we saw the pale drifts of Lifestream scattered across the stars. Our world as we know it is a war of the world's making. A war waged upon us, and itself, the galaxies and beyond willing a conquest by extermination of all that is good to us, and all that remains. Others have fought for us. We looked on to our saviors for help. Where once stood Shinra, our lord and protector, now stands bricks in broken asphalt. Where once stood Midgar, the empire, now stands Midgar, the ruins. Shinra, Avalanche, World Regenesis, Deepground. There's only so far we can go with self-conflict and single-manned goals.

The colonization of this planet alone won't help our cause. The clusters of our people still exist, the grounds of the past are crumbled, and one by one, we attempt to pick up the pieces, to an avail we hope still lives.

This isn't the end. At least, not yet. But can we learn, or will we ever learn?"

    - Anonymous Midgarian Historian, Year 2010

Premise
"The history of worlds can be written in a book, recounted by the telling and retelling of stories. What became of the civilians of Gaia could never be known, beyond the legendary tales told of Cloud Strife and the heroes of Avalanche who had saved the world from Meteor, and then of Vincent Valentine, who had saved the world from Weapon Omega. Yet there is one remaining account of the continuation of this enigmatic saga of those who survived two apocalypses and had lived to tell what they saw, heard, felt. Deeply encrypted in the furls of a netherworld, a digital graveyard, the crypt of binary numbers and permanently stored quantal data, there are floating values - codes, if you will, of this past. Digital technicians were called to decrypt what lays beneath lock and key. And once the Parameter was set, the fate of an entire species, the Gaian people, was unraveled. We call this story Parameter, for the cause of their fate, for what onsets played in their lives, the catalysts that claimed them, and finally, for the variable, the Parameter, that extricated all of these details, the lives that lived."

    - Translator of the 'Parameter', Year 7830

Parameter is a Final Fantasy VII roleplay set in a world after the fall-out of Dirge of Cerberus. The World Regenesis Organization is once more rebuilding, despite shock after shock of catastrophes presented by the Deepground faction and the aftermath of Omega.

Once the former Avalanche members had settled into their routines, a disquieting peace spread across the Planet.

It's too early to assume, however, that the Planet has chosen to finish its path of self destruction. Whether it has plans to meet its maker, or to take the course that it's due, is far beyond anyone's predictions. Holy eyes have seen the dead stir in sleep, and tonight, as has been every night since Omega left this world, the sky is a glazed milkyway of faded Lifestream, undulating in soft currents. Those who feared this as an omen, a foreshadowing of things to come, sought the wisdom of Bugenhagen, the sage of the natural order, who then replied, "This... is a curious knowledge indeed."

Setting
Because this is, after all, a FF7-specific world, it would behoove you players to know the layout of the lands and locations in Gaia. Due to the reconstruction after Dirge of Cerberus, you can assume that most locations have returned to the good ol' way they looked in the original game. This is to help those of you who are slightly new to the fandom, as well as those of you who need a refresher if you haven't played the game in a while. We've gathered a few resources for your visual pleasure, and if there are any broken links, please report them so we can make the appropriate changes.

The world map is probably the most useful and informative, showing you all the continents of the world, with the West, North, and East continents, along with their associated islands.

    • Cosmo Canyon is one of the most unique cities - or should I say town (canyon town), featuring a grand view and a very earthy, ground-rooted culture. It prides in its isolation from the mainstream, because living green is better than living with machines. This place has remained most unaffected, despite the jarring effects of the past few years.

    • Costa Del Sol is the place to be! This tropical island hails people from all over the Planet, turning in vast amounts of money from tourism and entertainment. Despite the near-end of the world, Costa bounced back quickly in reconstruction. Sunny and warm and probably festering with beach babes/bums. If you prefer your house hot and dry, well here's the place for you.

    • Midgar is no longer the center of the Planet, nor even of the continent. All that remains there are the fallen plates and dilapidated slums, with support structures broken beyond repair.

    • Junon is the coastal harbor town, still bearing the remains of the Shinra empire. The city still stands today as the place of trade, with ships docking and launching on the clock at every business hour.

    • Kalm is still the village-like town that it was many years ago, but these days this area has become a more lucrative location for entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, workers and residents alike, due to the fact that Midgar has faded over the years. Business has looked good.

    • Nibelheim, along with its neighbor, Corel, has expanded and grown into cities over the past couple of years after the shutdown of Gold Saucer and the demand for an entertainment district in the Western Continent, Corel has taken on the burden with casinos and hotels while Nibelheim remained a relatively more family-friendly business city.

    • Northern Crater is experiencing some strange glow. No one has ventured far enough to find out exactly what is going on above and beneath the surface. But someone has to. And should.

    • Temple of the Ancients was rebuilt and restored after its collapse, and has become a refuge and a sanctuary for those who found themselves displaced and homeless after the effects of the past few years. Many who seek shelter here are former Midgarians who have pitched a community of modest tents on this sanctified ground.

    • Wutai is now experiencing great progress and growth as a city after years of acclimating after the war in Wutai; and without the presence of Shinra, they are once again reclaiming the honor they thought they'd lost. Wutai's still far from the empire it once was, but its people are at peace with their fortunes.
